3 foot 5 inch by 4
foot 8 inch.
This may well be the
best rug I have offered on eBay so far.
This rug is in incredible condition. I
showed it to James M. "Uncle
Jimmy" Keshishian A. S. A. and he
said, "Tell them it's all
there". This rug has it all, the
pile is low but even. The borders and
even the end skirts are intact. The
condition is excellent and this rug has
the three most important qualities that
you should look for in a rug: COLOR!
COLOR! and COLOR! The Best Color I have
seen in a Caucasian!
Please see Hubel,
Reinhard G. The Book of Carpets plate
46 for a very similar published example
of a Shirvan-Marsali. The dentellated
diamond diaper is a near match as are the
stylized flowers. This rug has rather
rare borders. Ralph
Kaffel in Hali 103 mentions this type
of main border which he calls a cartouche
border but he fails to show and example
of a rug with this border. The minor
borders are a floret border which is seem
more often in Shirvan-Marasali prayer
rugs.
Color is difficult over
the internet, please review the Direct
Scan below for the best representation of
color in this rug.

Marasali
rugs are attributed to a village south of
Shemaka in the Shirvan region of the
Caucasus. The exact village is a subject
of conjecture but the style of these rugs
have been one of the very old Caucasian
designs. White ground Marasali Prayer
Rugs are comparatively rare and dark
fields are much more common. Ralph
