I spotted this Turkish Konya Area Sleeping Rug (yatak) on www.Cloudband.com offered by one of the World's top rug experts, my old friend John Wertime. Trusted Resource List Rug & Carpet Dealers In The U.S. John Wertime.
Full Description: Rugs with long pile made to be slept on are called yatak in Turkey. This rare early 19th century example, unlike any other we have seen, has a grid of squares filled with a geometrized version of the cloud collar motif ( for a discussion of this motif, see W. Bruggemann & H. Bohmer, Rugs of the Peasants and Nomads of Anatolia, Munich 1983, p. 204). The violet shade that figures in it prominently is a color that dyed out in Turkey in the late 19th century, only to be rediscovered in the late 20th century as coming from madder. This old rug is both collectible and highly decorative. SIZE: 6'10" x 5'11" For Further Reading: Thanks and best wishes, J. Barry O'Connell Jr. |
