Kaitag Embroidery

Kaitag Embroideries from Caucasus

Sericulture has been an important cottage industry in the Caucasus so we see silk embroidery there.  Kaitag embroideries are  a product of the Northern Caucasus. They come from an area from Zakatala north up the Southern slope of the Great Caucasus Ridge into Southern Daghestan. This area was an important area for  sericulture going back to at least 1500 and probably well before  that.
