If I lost it I would not replace it.

Of some use but not one I would go out of my way to find.

Useful.

Very useful and one I would recommend strongly.

A very important or even the definitive work on the subject. It does not have to be perfect but if I give it 5 stars and you are interested in that area then you should own a copy.

Not Yet Rated - I haven't gotten to it yet so if you wish to review it please feel free. There is a limit to how many books I can read so it is not rated do not assume anything is wrong with the book. If you disagree with any of my opinions write me and I may annotate this list with your comments.

Irons, Wm. and N. Dyson-Hudson: Perspectives on Nomadism ; Leiden: 1972. 6 x 9.5, Essay from the 1969 "Symposium on Nomadic Societies" covering the Yurok, Baluchi, Yomut, Besseri and the Kalat Khanate., nomad nomadism anthropology yurok baluchistan yomut besseri tribe kalat khanate.

Irwin, John. The Kashmir Shawl. 1973, (1981),

Irwin, J. The Girdlers Carpet. London UK: The Court of the Girdlers Company. 1962

A small brochure but it is the single best source of information on the carpet. Very solid work from John Irwin, Keeper, India Section, Victoria & Albert Museum.

This is an invaluable source for anyone interested in the weapons that we see in Afghan war rugs. Good pictures, good text, Isby is top in his field and this is his best work for the non specialist.

Isby, David C. War In A Distant Country: Afghanistan. England UK: Arms and Armor Press, 1989.

Very good book specifically on the Afghan War. More on the rebels then "Ten Million Bayonets" but not quite as valuable to war rug collectors.

Isby, David C. Weapons and Tactics of the Soviet Army. England UK: Janes, 1981.

The best book I know of to identify Soviet Arms in Afghan War Rugs.

Ittig, Annette. Woven Dreams Oriental Carpets, Montreal, The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, 1994.

Ittig holds this book together, barely. The pictures and the rugs are not up to the standard of Annette Ittig's scholarship. The structural Information is very useful. Ittig is an important scholar who needs better material and more budget.
